Is all bias bad?

By bias / Guest contribution

We live in a society that forces us to be biased on almost everything around us . Fat Vs thin , rich vs poor , good job vs average job , marriageable age , education etc etc etc. Yes as a generation we are trying to move beyond such biases as we have seen over the past so many years but it's a slower process than what we really do need. We need to come out of the regular thought process of having a certain kind of life according to everyone around us . We are made to realise that...

Mr John Flintham

By bias / Guest contribution

As an Englishman living and working in India, I feel super respected. This is contrary to what many would expect! Would I say that there is a bias in the Indian society? Yes, but for white expats it works for us instead of against us. When I walk in to a factory or a restaurant, I get more respect than the rest of the group. By bias / Guest contribution

Racism can be defined as a prejudice against a race/community. It is based on generalization and encourages the belief that every individual in a group possesses the same characteristics and can be assumed to be the same. I received a curt hello followed by the regular questions about my stay. Having taken the same flight more a dozen times over the last year, I was ready...

The importance of Colloquy

In India, racism is not unintentional it is preached. It is extremely difficult for anyone to change anybody’s mindset when it comes to the sensitive issue of biases. Sadly, but truly it’s there in each one of us. Over the past few months, I went and spoke to people from all woks of life and not only made them realise that they are biased but also the realisation that it is not right to be biased. I wouldn’t say I was hundred percent successful in making the minds of so many people racism free, but even the little change that...

Relevance of Racism

By bias / Guest contribution

Racism is an issue that that is relevant to every country and at all stratas of society. It is highlighted today due to media, globalisation and America’s complicated and much discussed history with slavery. Racial bias in India is proliferated by stereotypes caused due to lack of education or ignorance. In India the bias is still somewhat subliminal and much less talked about but due to the diversity of this country it is something that we deal with on a daily basis. Racial alienation is leading to ethnic conflicts as seen in Punjab, Kashmir and the north east. The history...
